Celebrity

Celebrities have a significant impact on the way that we view the world and the things we incorporate into our own lives. Movie and TV stars, musicians and sports celebrities are usually the people we most want to emulate and be like. That is a very ingrained part of our culture. Because of this factor, sunglasses have become one of the most common and ubiquitous pieces of fashion apparel around. People will purchase designer sunglasses not so much for protection from sunlight as they obtain them because their favorite celebrity is seen wearing them.

As an example, aviator sunglasses became popular in the 1930's because pilots and authority figures were using them but by the early 1980's had begun to drop out of favor as being too "old fashioned". Then Tom Cruise sported a set of black aviators in the 1987 movie "Top Gun" and now aviator sunglasses are again the single biggest selling style of celebrity emulated eyewear on the market.

Superstars like John Lennon and Ozzy Osborne have forever integrated the small round lenses teashade style sunglasses into the popular counterculture look. While teashades don't afford a lot of sunscreen protection, they have firmly embedded themselves in our minds as "cool".

While many celebrities wear big oversized sunglasses to help them remain incognito in public, this too has created a bit of celebrity driven popularity. It’s not just Elton John who wears sunglasses big enough for two heads. Other celebrities are frequently seen sporting sunglasses so big that "Jackie O" style sunglasses look like "Teashades" in comparison.

While the price tag on many of these celebrity associated brands of designer sunglasses can be way outside the average person's budget, there are many places in stores and online that offer discounted and replica celebrity sunglasses at a fraction of the cost. Shopping on eBay for celebrity style sunglasses will also allow you to buy even brand names like Gucci or Versace for a cost that doesn't require a celebrity's salary to obtain.

One thing that should always be remembered when you want to buy sunglasses to look like your favorite celebrity. Not every discount or replica sunglass manufacturer will make the lenses to industry standards of UV protection. Shop carefully and look for brands that maintain quality guidelines and warranties. It would not do to look like your idol but have your eyes damaged where you couldn't look at them.
